News You Can Lose! I was one of its few semi-regular viewers and I’m glad I got to witness it. I imagine this is what it feels like to have seen Firefly or the Wire when they first aired on TV.

I don’t even care for the term “single” because I see it as the default way of being, with dating/marriage being an extra thing people can do if they want. It’s like, I’m not single, I just am.
I don’t know if this is a recent fad. The Undewear Heads wrote a song about it decades ago.
Thank you for introducing me to “Fascinating Womanhood.” I just looked up some of it online and was literally lol’ing at my desk. It’s so absurdly over-the-top in its anti-feminism that it reads like parody. There’s a chapter called “An Introduction to Childlikeness.” I might give the whole thing a hate-read sometime.
Me too! So glad to see others saying this. I remember thinking it was gross, and in a weird way. Like, not regular gross, somehow.
I find it entertaining, too. He’s one of the top public pseudo-intellectuals in the world right now, up there with Scott Adams (the Dilbert guy). It’s even better when he tries to sound poetic, like in this recent Instagram post:
Very cool! I dunno why people in YouTube comments think it’s scary.
It’s a crap song. She gave it the irreverent performance it deserves.
I know what you’re saying — being white and good-looking must have given them an advantage, but it wasn’t a substitute for talent or hard work. They very much worked their asses off, too. Those first few years, they were touring, recording, and making radio & TV appearances pretty much constantly. And for before…
If I understand correctly, these stereotypes is what they were being asked about. From the linked article about the UCLA study:
Here’s a great take-down of him, if you’re interested.
As well as a climate change-denier, and a believer in “The Secret.”
Yeah, I was confused by the use of the word “random” there too.

Anyone else here taking an MAOI? I’d read good things about phenelzine for social anxiety and depression, and my doctor was willing to let me try it. It seems to work better for me than zoloft or prozac, neither of which helped my anxiety, though they did boost my mood a bit.
I used to rely on kava to manage my social anxiety disorder at work, before I finally went to see a psychiatrist and got some meds. It worked pretty well for me at the time, though I wouldn’t go back to it now. It made me feel slightly euphoric and more sociable, sort of like being drunk, except without the…
The Leftovers actually got better in its 2nd and 3rd seasons, after it went beyond the end of the book. Who knows, maybe this will too. #optimistic
Agreed! I’m already way self-conscious about my facial expression in social situations. And when I get really anxious, my face tends to “freeze” and it becomes hard to form facial expressions, especially to smile. I wish I could tell people “ignore my face; it doesn’t necessarily reflect what I’m thinking.”
