Merci beaucoup!
Merci beaucoup!
This infuriates me so much right now.
gah, double post
Not sure if there was a typo in your comment, but I'm a Latina who "cannot handle" when Hispanic/Latino is not considered a race.
I had to send this to my southern grandma, who lives abroad. She would totally do something like this.
Back when my grandfather was still alive, they would subscribe to a service that would allow them to still watch U.S. channels via satellite — most importantly, C-SPAN.
I have no idea what happened to Jackie at UVA. Even if the details in the story deviate far from the truth, I feel deeply for this woman, because I'm certain that a trauma happened at some point in her life for this chain of events to have taken place. I'm certain that this experience is brutal for her psyche.
+1000. My husband and I got engaged after dating for two months. (For purposes of full disclosure, we didn't get married for another 1.5 years - it takes time to plan a wedding.) We didn't do it because we were afraid, but rather because we had experienced a lot and knew we had spotted exactly what we had wanted.
Science, it's hard.
Nah, I don't take comments personally - I assume we're all debating about topics and not about each other, right? :)
But to put it in pperspective as to why this probably matters to her, her damn engagement ring was destroyed in a fit of paranoia. My guess is that a lot of things associated with her wedding are now…
Sorry to harangue, but this is a straw man argument. Whether or not she had been exposed was not relevant until she had a fever. She did not have a fever, ergo she was not contagious. It is *extremely* difficult to catch Ebola at the point when someone does have a low-grade fever, and it is impossible to catch it…
Agree with you — I personally would have let the deposit go and asked close friends to help organize a community fundraiser.
I hear that - if it were me, I'd probably discretely ask someone to start a fundraiser for me and just chalk up the forfeited deposit to another shitty inconvenience resulting from Ebola.
But that wasn't a mandated policy; it's not even in keeping with experts' advice. Why would she assume she was in the wrong when she was following orders to a T? (Also worth noting: no one in the U.S. has caught Ebola who wasn't medically tending to an extremely sick patient. That's how hard it is to catch.)
I think if I were here, I likely would have asked someone to start a fundraiser and let the deposit go.
But she wasn't symptomatic. It wasn't until AFTER she had a fever that when asked to think back on it, she thought she was tired, but attributed it to be being home and running around. (I can relate - my extended family EXHAUSTS me.)
She didn't realize she was sick and in fact was not contagious and was cleared by the…
As a mixed race person, I tend to see people who look like Shoshana and either consciously or subconsciously think that we look alike.
I guess for me that's why I didn't pick on the problematic aspects of the video. It rang true in that it reflected my experiences: "catcalls" I received from men of color were more…
The flaming piano is really the reflection of the fireplace trough that they're seen roasting marshmallows over.
If there HAD been such a thing as flaming pianos, perhaps I would have stuck with piano lessons.
I think that's more about not wanting to risk infecting his loved ones (who he engages in physical contact with) if he were to become symptomatic than avoiding contact with people while asymptomatic. Or do hotel staff not count as people?
This shirt would have worked just as great if it had been "I <3 Planned Parenthood" in the same pink/font from her book. For Lena lovers, it would've been a secret handshake with it's easily recognizable 70s book club font, and for others who just love PP, it would've worked for them too.
But it's not a BS rule — TSA agents focus on passenger screening and aviation safety, airport security generally is responsible for security outside of the screening area (especially the unsecured area prior to screening, which this seemed to be).
