Your neighbor rules.

This picture is hurting me with its awesomeness.

You took part of my sentence and ignored the rest, then you call someone else dishonest? Ok. Troll on. I'm out.

I think you need to read a little more closely. I didn’t say you called anyone a simpleton, that was in a response to someone else’s comment. And if you read Tav’s actual words, there are many disclaimers involved and he doesn’t just say “it’s cheap and no risk to own a Ferrari”, then walk away and have a beer. If

I still don’t think Tav’s articles are contributing to what you’re describing, since Jalopnik seems more like a site for the Internet-savvy type car buffs. However that is interesting hearing about these types of folks out and about, interesting point.

Please see above. No one is “scraping by” to save 60k, blowing it on a used Ferrari on the advice of an online article by an author who doesn’t use his real name, and then being ruined financially as a result. No one. And even if this unicorn did exist, comment sections will not save them. That's my take on it.

I hear that, but I still stand by my stance that people with this kind of money to burn are 99% likely not dumb enough to fail to google “cost of car X ownership” or similar. This mythical group of expensive car buying, expendable cash having, non-basic Google search running people simply doesn’t exist, in my opinion,

Fun piece. Tav, I really wish people would stop claiming your articles are bad advice like they’re performing some sort of public service. Folks, people who have 50k+ to burn on a fun car are not so foolish as to buy something like this without doing any research, and if they were, this posturing and harrumphing in

I don’t think BMW has the guts to make this car what it really needs to be: a better car than the Mustang GT350R. If it gets produced, and it’s anywhere close, it will cost a minimum of 30k more, and will not be faster in any appreciable way. I am already gleefully imagining the journo comparos. Having said all that,

Ended up building the exact same package. Looks bad as hell. Yes please.

Thank you for your humanity and empathy. - a motorcyclist

There goes the neighborhood. Great racing is about personalities as much as anything else, and making it impossible for these drivers to express themselves will continue to marginalize IndyCar as a “WTF is that?” sport for Americans. Super job, IndyCar. Way to show the world you have no idea how to market your sport.

I mean, that job takes 8 hours according to the article. Which is a Saturday. Sounds like a major job, but nothing to be scared of. There are things on a Miata that take 8 hours but I still do them.

Here’s a $250 Bosch alternator for e39 5-series cars. 2 hours isn’t that bad. Special tools are a pain, but thems the breaks if you want a car like this. Doesn’t justify dumping money to let someone else do all the work. Everything starts at $1,000? no offense but I’m not seeing it.

Every time there’s an older luxury car on NPCP people whip themselves into a lather about expensive repairs. Unless we’re talking about expensive PARTS, I don’t see the issue. Do it yourself. There is no other way to own an older luxury car. Either you do the work yourself, or you have an ace mechanic who is honest

Seriously, why are all the NP/CP threads these days replete with people raving about expensive repairs? Where are the shade-tree mechanics? No one touches my car but me, and I realize that’s extreme, but I just find it weird that people seem so averse to turning a wrench around here. There’s no way in hell I could

Thanks!

Just saw this, dang. Where are these posted so I can catch the next one?

Living in Chicago, I must agree. Also, I’d sell off both the current and sidelined powerplants and LS1 this little guy. It’s nice, but with that many miles, it’s no museum piece, so you may as well. Unless you’re reeaaallly into those BMW sixes.

CP. I actually really love the C3 body style, but you can get so much more car for 6k that you’d have to be a C3 fanatic with lots of parts lying around for this to be any kind of deal. Most gearheads are not going to be able to leave the motor/tranny alone since it’s one of the worst combos GM has put in a car in the
