I’m not saying this in retrospect, but there’s nothing that should have indicated that the risk was worth it.

I think he’s talking about the wealthy people who made flight more than something purely experimental or relevant only for the military.
Why would anyone voluntarily move from CA to Nevada anyway.
They didn’t pioneer anything except a particularly embarrassing way to die — at the altar of cost-cutting and “disruption.” Don’t make tourists out to be heroes.
I would too - but they still haven’t told us how much it’s going to cost. And based on other EVs of similar size and capability it’s almost certainly going to be out of our reasonable price range - particularly if they don’t control dealer mark ups.
Relying on unregulated private car ownership as the dominant form of transportation is dangerous and unhealthy to the public.
Sure. But that wasn’t my point. There are all sorts of compromises with the Wrangler. But people still love them and are more than willing to accept those compromises for something. And I think that something is pretty obvious (see above). It’s not objectively rationale, but it’s more or less the same reason that…
An Italian sports car leaking?
Really depends on who you are and what you want. CR is a perfectly good option for the vast majority of people out there - who just want a car / truck / SUV to do everyday stuff with. They aren’t catering to enthusiasts. Or off-roaders. Or people who want cars with some type of character and charm. They’re…
This is just it. it’s not just that Musk is an asshole. Though he his. I’m not sure Ford is any better - just quieter.
And exactly how are they - the WEF with no inherent jurisdiction - going to “impose” this on us. Assuming that’s even what they want. I want specifics - because your claim is very concerning.
The horror.
Another reason why we opted out - a three year old in the backseat. But - my level of risk comfort is not the same as everyone’s - and my guess is that a modern Jeep is still a good deal safer than some of what I would have ridden around in in the 80s and 90s. And is probably still better than a lot of cars from 2…
What sort of horrible lifestyle is that?
I mean, in many ways he’s not all that much different from the rest of us - right? It’s just his impact is greater because he has more money. But ultimately if we want to address any environmental issues we have to make sacrifices to things that entertain us, and make life easier. And most of us are very reluctant to…
Disagree on all that - at least based on our test drives.
Yep. Exactly. I totally get why a Wrangler might not be for everyone. We looked and passed recently when buying a new car. Too little rear cargo room and too much of a hassle to take the top off / on and carry SUP and surf boards. But it was tempting because of all these reasons.
That’s why we just bought an Outback! We looked for anything resembling a reasonably priced wagon and they are non-existent. Those that exist in theory (a base Volvo V60 for instance) are impossible to get in the real world (at least where I live).
I’m genuinely confused by people who don’t understand why people love Wranglers. It’s pretty straightforward:
It was on my short list, but the center mounted exhaust make it far too difficult to haul bikes. So Subaru won this one, for me, with the Outback we just put a deposit on.
