Israel supports the rebels, as do we, because Assad and Iran support Hezbollah in Syria and Lebanon. Isreal’s border area with Syria has remained stable since ‘67 not because of Assad. It’s been that way because of Israeli strength.

They propped up some factions in Lebanon in the early 80s and that’s worked out okay. In a pitched civil war taking money from Israel isn’t going to hurt unless you lose. And in that case it’s going to hurt, anyway.
