You’re thinking of Smokey Yunick and it was an 11 foot long, 2" diameter fuel line that held 5 gallons. He would also put a basketball in his fuel tank, inflate it for tech, then after they'd drain the tank and see it was the correct volume, take the basketball out and have that much more fuel.
