A solid point. I'd argue the biggest difference is that Cronenberg is cold and clinical, while Enemy is like the visual representation of one of those nights where you wake up twice and can't stop sweating.

What did you think of Enemy? It's be film that put Villeneuve on my radar, but I definitely feel like it's a little style over substance. The atmosphere's incredible though.

Yeah, I felt pretty hurt over the whole thing and complicit for having hyped up his work so much. Just like shit all around.

I struggle with depression— although it hasn't been severe and continued for a few years, thank God— and that's exactly right. It's not just that you're sad, it's that you lose some degree of the ability to feel happy. It's a physical illness, and it's one that happens to have a mortality rate.

Yeah, after the shit going on with a supposedly cool dude in the gaming media this week, I am 100% on board with it. I'll take a couple swirlies as collateral damage if it can get the Internet back in line.

But enough about the English literary canon, what do you think about the article?

They are like Vulcans, though— they're just perpetually stuck in the "surly, horny, angry, and bad at communication" part of the mating cycle.

Given that this is a software engineer, I'm thinking he's valuing a lack of empathy more on the train-watching-and-obsessing side of the scale.

Nah, most actual nerds of this caliber hate the show. Not, like, in a sympathetic way though; they just feel like it's an assault on their identities— I've seen the phrase "minstrel show in nerdface" used unironically.

No, I know the official explanation. I just don't believe that Paul was publishing a newsletter with his name and allowing articles to be credited to him for years without having any clue what was in them. I don't belive that he continued to be ignorant of these articles for almost 20 years after their publication,

In all fairness, I'd imagine that over the years, people have sent you tons of links proving that Ron Paul is a racist kook with moronic ideas, and yet here you are in the year of our lord 2017 sporting a Ron Paul avatar and demanding that people treat you as something other than a joke.

As John Darnielle recently said on Twitter: "they sold Jesus Christ for a bag of magic beans and then started worshipping the beans."

I was gonna say, "Now, he's not Steve Bannon," but I'm not sure that's true.

So you agree that women are biologically conditioned to be worse at ideas? Good to know.

Yeah, I'm, uh, pretty sick of this shit. Especially this week. For reasons you can probably guess.

Well, that shows me for trying to make out the individual words in that song.

Man, I got permanent Wall toxicity just from knowing people who were into the album when I was 14.

Eh, Pink Floyd's alright, I guess.

It wasn't that hard to figure out— I follow the news.
