Mel Brooks movies don't just have someone walk into frame, shout "two midgets shitting into a bucket!" and then wait for applause.

Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games of all time and yet I cannot get hyped for Andromeda. I'm sure I'll play it at some point, but I keep forgetting it's even coming out.

I DO THIS.

I think you missed the part where him doing that entailed bringing a pin-up photo with him into the workplace.

Keep in mind, Vogon has like half this site blocked.

I'm not trying to diminish Stalin's evil at all, but portrayals like this film do a disservice to history in the act of making an obvious villain. I was just glad that IV pointed out the disconnect.

Thanks for the comments on the portrayal Stalin. I love Soviet history and I always hate to see portrayals of the man— who was in many ways the ultimate bureaucrat and rose to power as much through middle management and organizational skills as anything else —as some kind of towering supervillain. It serves to flatter

It's "a different tack," not "tact." It's a sailing term.

Me too.

Damn that Marty. Doesn't he know that me being validated by Hollywood bottom-feeders is more important than his so-called "art?"

You're wrong.

Good comparison. When a I saw Carol i walked out of the theater thinking it was going to win Best Picture. Still can't wrap my head around that snub.

Under the Skin had a handful of very strong musical themes, though. The "Death" motif especially is really memorable and is used very effectively to carry thematic weight in the movie.

Thank you. I don't know why people insist on saying that a film whose message is "actors are self-involved idiots who insist that their work is more important than it actually is" is a Hollywood circle jerk.

Especially as that was the one chance Nightcrawler had at glory that night.

The moment when Ogata realizes that Rodrigues isn't understanding and just melts down in his kimono in disdain— that was so disturbing and funny, and I wish it got played in front of the Academy. Just a brilliant performance all around, and I'm amazed that character didn't feel like a cardboard villain

God, what can't Monae do?

Well put— I saw Birdman in theaters, loved it, was impressed by the cinematography (I hadn't known going in about the one-shot trick, and watching it unfold was magical), and it was my 3rd-favorite movie of the year.

Silence absolutely should have gotten more love. I'd say it's my personal favorite of the year, and it's a travesty that the Academy ignored it as much as they did. Scorsese' best movie since… well, shit, that would be more impressive if his last film hadn't also been so good.

I do wonder how many people who bring up the comparison are thinking of Ryan beyond the opening, and whether they've seen Shakespeare in Love since it came out. It's certainly not the obvious bad decision that folks like to say it is.
