I think it’s only a heresy if the original engine is pristine. Given that a lot of classics’ engines are no longer produced and parts are scarce, if the original engine is busted or mistreated to a certain extent, an LS (or any other modern engine) swap may actually prolong the car’s life, instead of collecting dust…
They are (potentially) endangering someone else. Public roads are called public because it’s public, no matter how remote or deserted the place. You’d never know if someone else maybe is having a road trip, or a tractor needs to cross the road, or a kid suddenly ran across, etc..

The integrated oil funnel is actually may be harmful to the engine. You know that engine covers literally picks dusts, and large particles in oil may scratch cylinder walls.
