I agree with you, and I think it was quite reasonable to expect that the due diligence had been done by RS. It's startling to find out just how little fact-checking was done (not all that startling given past problems of this kind that have cropped up with other magazine/papers).

I watch a lot of pretty dark shows and a good number of UK shows, but nothing — and I mean NOTHING — prepared me for the first episode, "The National Anthem". I truly wish I could unsee the last 10 minutes of that episode, "profoundly disturbing" doesn't begin to cover it.

I don't love your screen name there but I agree with you. Sure, the rapists are 100% to blame absolutely. No question, not up for debate. I agree on the reaction of her "friends"...I think that is the most soul-crushing part of this article. I disagree that those friends were 'turned' into monsters by the greek system though, I think it's more that being put into a tough situation (supporting their friend at the expense of "belonging" and risking being
