It’s an Engineering department, but most of us are not engineers. And all of the women who volunteer this extra work are not engineers. I don’t think it’s anything to do with engineers not being assertive, and can’t say I’ve noticed that trend myself.

I was once questioned by my boss as to why I didn’t go for coffee with the other two ladies in the office. Like I was failing in my duties of “hanging out with other ladies”. Something must be wrong with me. Um, they didn’t invite me - how is that my fault?

I work in an Engineering department where there are few women. I often feel out of place because some of the other women do things like bring in baking, clean up after special lunches while the men walk right out the door, arrange events, offer to take notes in meetings etc. Inside I am screaming “YOU’RE MAKING IT…

I would flip my shit at that guidance counsellor. If she’s *really* “too confident”, she will learn when she looks like a fool for being wrong. What bothers them is that she’s right and she knows she’s right! How dare she.

I was hired at a job and offered a choice of two similar positions, one of which offered a bit more pay for a bit more work. After a few months found out the guy they hired for the “less work less pay” position was making the same hourly wage as me. And I had more experience in the field than him.

People often will offer credit to men for work that I’ve done - sometimes they take it happily, sometimes they acknowledge that I had a large part or did most or all of the work. Sadly, not always.

It must have been this movie I tried to watch - something where some underage girl was supposed to be Allen's girlfriend. I was so disgusted I turned it off. Far as I could tell, everyone in the movie was acting like this was totally normal. I do not get why people think Allen is so great - he's done a few good movies…
