It’s hard to talk about without bringing
up the spoilers but I find this a really surprising reaction because whether or not it ends up being good or bad, what I read was *definitely* not ordinary or derivative. In fact, my reaction was that, asides from being extremely bold, I'm not sure I've ever heard of a video

A great, successful surprise is one of the best pleasures in fiction. Do you not care about them? Cool. Some of us do. Turns out different people value different things. Crazy, I know!

Ah yes, that’s true. Since I played it pretty recently I understood what he meant but it could have been a bit clearer, I suppose.

I’ve only recently played the 2012 XCOM but in that one, only the Assault class had that ability. I'd be surprised if that wasn't also the case in the sequel.

All of this just to get into a beta?

The future sure is weird.

I’ve been baffled by this game since my roommate in 2001 got hooked on the first one. I can usually understand the appeal of most games even if they’re not for me, but this one makes no sense to me. But hey, different strokes and all that. (Though I can’t deny that the bajillion articles about its every little mundane

By far the thing I liked least about XCom (though definitely not the only one) was the big, sprawling levels with random monsters popping up. Who thinks exploration is fun in a turn based game with multiple characters? Ugh.

Gawd, this looks amazing. If only I had a Switch....

Uh. Why does Sonya look so...male?

I have no dog in this fight one way or the other but as I recall, Tolkien wrote LOTR as one novel. His publisher decided to split it into 3 separate releases because they didn't think audiences would want to buy a book that gigantic. So it was never really supposed to be a trilogy.

“To solve crunch, probably the best you could say: don’t try to make Game of the Year.”

It’s ultimately a pedantic point but, google “light bloom”. That’s the name of a specific technique for artificially simulating light. Ray tracing is a completely different technique that has nothing to do with the old “bloom” effect, and much more accurately simulates the way real light works.

This is true of practically every new cutting edge tech though. It's expensive for a while and eventually it becomes common and affordable.

Strongly disagree. I love the feel of the ray traced version.

The opening post made me think this article would contain little to no anime girls. Disappointed.

I find it bizarre that many people hate that don’t want the comment section of these articles to contain negative comments. It’s a comment section, people are going to comment with their opinions, both good and bad, but for some reason only good ones are welcome here.

Sounds like Eric knows bad writing when he sees it. We should encourage more gamers to hold games to higher writing standards. I say run far the other way, Eric.

Needing to work to survive is also not a feature that is even remotely unique to capitalism, it is a basic fact of just being an animal. If you are not working to survive than somebody else is working so you can survive. Those are the only two options.

“In our hyper-connected capitalist world, especially right now, productivity in general—not just in Animal Crossing—can be performative. We equate productivity with worth and meaning because it’s what we’ve been primed to do.”
