It is indeed very weird seeing this article on Kotaku.

Didn’t think anyone would care about what games some random commenter liked. :P

Two of my very top favorite games of the last few years have been tiny games with almost no coverage anywhere that I stumbled upon on Steam. It makes me think that there are a lot of very good games getting totally lost and buried every year.

I'm not saying they should replace all their coverage of bigger games. I'm pretty sure they can write about a smaller game once or twice a week without chasing away their audience.

Helping developers isn't the job of Kotaku, per se, but helping consumers is at least part of their job, and I certainly think all the big websites could do more to help wade through the avalanche to find worthwhile games.

“The only thing we can do is continue to keep this in mind as purchasers of games...”

For sure! But what gets considered “good” writing (or acting) might be different depending on the audience. And it looks to me like the gaming audience has pretty low standards for “good”.

Yikes. Watching that felt as natural and human as watching Anakin and Padme talking about sand. If this level of dialogue and acting is considered “good” by video game standards, the medium has a looong way to go before it can approach what other mediums are doing.

It seems like this game is mostly getting reviewed by people very familiar with the original, but I think it would be really interesting for this game to have a separate review by someone who has never played the original. This game is over 20 years old, there’s a ton of adults who weren’t even born when this game

I too hate it when people accommodate each others simple and harmless preferences.

They're just a form of negotiation, really, and negotiation is a very natural part of capitalism.

FYI unions are a part of capitalism. They are not a “solution” to capitalism, they are one form of capitalism being practiced.

That’s a fair criticism, though honestly it’s pretty darn common among game reviewers.

Jesus Christ yes, 1000 times this.  I wish this post was at the top of every damn article about VR to put a stop to this ridiculous, nonsensical talking point.

The point of the article is to give you his impression of the game. That’s why it’s filed under “Impressions” at the top.

Or are you brain washed if you *do* see it?

Could you imagine if Nintendo decided to just surprise drop HD remakes of all the 3D
Mario’s for the anniversary? I mean, I'm sure that's not what's happening, but if it did, I'm pretty sure the (gaming) internet would explode.

How many “Some players are doing a thing in Animal Crossing” articles can they fit in today? Let’s find out!

Hooooooly cow those last two videos

Did you know that it's possible for things that you're not interested in to exist without harming you in any way?
