To me, the issue isn’t so much “too many from one franchise” as much as it is “why do all the characters from this game look the same??” Like, if you must add another FE character, can it NOT be another skinny, blue-haired, sword using anime teen? Or does this series exclusively feature skinny, blue-haired, sword

Check out the Wikipedia article for “Demographics of the Czech republic” which is roughly the region where Kingdom took place. Notice that throughout the 20th century, European ethnicities make up over 99% of the population. Given these numbers, it is likely that there are people in rural Czech towns *today* that have

It wasn’t the “it doesn’t bother you” that got me, it was the “you have no empathy”. That’s a really harsh thing to say about someone you barely know. It’s a really dehumanizing thing, as only, like, sociopaths and movie villians have no empathy. I can assure you I have plenty of empathy, even if I disagree with you

Those responses are indeed totally, laughably ridiculous. Not just stupidly sexist but plainly factually inaccurate. Those comments deserve all the criticism they get. But my question is, if nobody from their company had said anything one way or the other, would people still find it upsetting that Tarkov has no female

One of the reasons it’s so difficult and awful and divisive to have discussions on the internet is that so many people, people like you, assume the absolute worst about everyone who doesn’t see exactly eye to eye with you. Please, for the love of god, step back a little and try to see why that is a problem. I

The “games set in Japan” argument was in reference to that Kingdom game mentioned in this article, which caused a bunch of bizarre controversy for the developer when chose to only include European characters in their game set in a medieval Europe. Which is a totally reasonable creative decision. But the argument

Thank you for almost entirely ignoring my post and instead respond to an imaginary poster that said they don’t think representation in games matters or should be something people care about.

If you’re implying that this article is an answer to my questions, I disagree. The article is written with the assumption that the reader already knows and agrees that it is a problem we should be upset about. It does not really make that argument, it assumes that argument has already been made and won.

But....why is it a problem if Tarkov decides it will do a war game where the soldiers are male? Nobody really makes a good argument for why that’s a problem, or why that is an issue worth writing long articles about. “Representation is good!” Sure, cool, we agree. But that isn’t the same as “I should care that this

I had hoped an ARMS character would make it in because a) that game had a cool sense of style and b) it would provide really unique gameplay opportunities. I doubt it though, considering that game never really took off and doesn't have much of a fanbase. At this point, fan service is most of the reason to add new

I don't understand how Dr Robotnik isn't *already* in this game!

Someone believing something isn’t nonsense doesn’t automatically make it not nonsense. A rational person is fortunately allowed to make that judgment.

Caring about things isn’t pointless, and apathy sucks. But that doesn’t mean we have to then care about every damn thing and to treat everything everywhere as Very Important.

I will assume that at no point in your life have you heard someone say they were upset by something and gone “jeez, that’s a dumb thing to be upset about”. In which case, congratulations on being so very, very noble.

Okami was definitely the top game on my mind when I posted that. 🙂

As a related complaint - I really wish AAA studios made games where you played as something else than a human! We have a medium where we can be anyone or anything and the AAA developers can hardly think of anything else to make but boring ol’ humans (probably a dude, probably with guns and/or stabby things).

Just saying “it’s interactive so it’s a game” is too simplistic though. Obviously there is lots of interactive software that *isn’t* a video game. I interact with spreadsheets all the time but nobody would call Excel a video game. So I definitely think we need a better definition of why Excel is not a video game but

Can I get a shout out for my favorite original movie of this year, The Lighthouse? The mad bonkers wtf-ery is super prime “not for everyone” material but it was probably the most exciting time I had a movie that didn't have Steve Rogers this year.
