Paper Magazine is so weird. They feature all of these pop culture sirens but they have such a strong, bizarre imprint on all of their imagery. I loves it.

Another way to put it...it’s a motif like anything else. Classical composers also write in certain motifs. Eras have sounds, aesthetics, etc. One can do something highly creative within a given art form.
my point is that it’s not merely derivative. also, perhaps people used to dismissively call things derivative because it took some time - *coughcough* postmodernism - to appreciate how artists borrowed or referred. all art is like this. capitalism has confused us.
thanks! i’m trying to do more music writing on my blog. i’m a musician/songwriter and a writer-writer but i haven’t done much music criticism. i’m tentatively tiptoeing that way...(there be dragons there....)
and that is so adorable. you’re kid’s gonna turn out alright! (“alright” said in that cool 1970's way.)
he did “losing you”? makes so much sense!
i know cc but i appreciate the reminder! haven’t listened in awhile : )
in related news, i <3 dev hynes music. it ironically sounds like the musical equivalent of what stranger things does filmically...a reference to the 80s without irony, but total immersion and lovely, tactile mastery over a very era-specific aesthetic.
also that’s like a 15-20 year age difference.
Know what makes ME cry? Mila Kunis is all of 32 and is playing a well-educated, career-driven mom to 10 year old kids. Most ambitious women nowadays are only beginning to have kids at that age. CAN WE PLEASE GET WOMEN OF THE APPROPRIATE AGE IN THE APPROPRIATE ROLES EVER EVER EVER MY GOD

Woah, heLLO, Diplo.
Or, shit I never thought I would say [tho I do like his musics].
the things we forgive in white men we wouldn’t forgive in any one else. if hillary had spoken even one such comment...or obama...like, holy ish, can you imagine?!
ivanka is his daughter, so i’m going to with ivanka.

because anti-intellectualism is really about holding onto [the illusion of a] modicum of power or ignoring hard truths, and they often default to “it’s the parent’s job to X” when they don’t want to look at social truths - as if the nuclear family is somehow immune from social ills (hah, right?!). it’s a nice illusion…
there are some holes in this logic. saying that a show normalizes lack of consent, even a cartoon, does not thereby mean that *everything* in all cartoons is a serious lesson. sex, however, is and has always been serious for a number of reasons, and therefore aspects of its portrayal may have repercussions - whether…
a skunk cartoon that gropes female skunks and is presented to children. note: real skunks don’t talk, so this is still presented to kids as a reflection of humans. don’t be willfully ignorant just so you can keep getting offended over peoples’ supposed offense. oy fucking vey, brah.
oh, you know what she means. good try minimizing something legit, though, so you can feel smugly dismissive and unthreatened. it’s a transparent defense, bro.
as a small girl with a big butt and hips, no. i’d actually want to wear this, but it just would NOT work on me. it would gather strangely around the ass because when you have shape and try to wear something shapeless...um. it doesn’t look mod or cool...just...awkward times. but YOU DO YOU, ya’ll.
Celine Dion and Jimmy Fallon together is uncanny — they’re the exact same amount of annoying and attention-starved yet simultaneously sweet and well-meaning.
Mark Hoppus wins Twitter today. (He’s Gen X, right? Even though Blink 182 just put out a new song that is set in and sounds like high school, which is not weird…
