Having just switched from an electric to a gas range I can assure you that it is WAY more than a minimal difference.  I can get water to boil so much faster, my pans pre-heat faster (including my cast iron).  The cooking itself is also faster.  There is no metric where electric ranges reign.  

Natural gas to power the electric stoves.  Just cut out the middle man and everyone wins!

Very interesting.  My local natural gas company is offering rebates for those who switch from an electric range/oven/dryer/water heater to gas.  My house was built in 2006 and I have gas an electric as an option for each of those appliances.  Just switched to a gas range and I friggin love it so much!!
