I'd argue the third season is far worse than the first; the first season at least has a sense of momentum and coherence. Flawed as it is, I can forgive many of those flaws as the show was finding its feet. Still find it difficult to understand how they managed to bungle the third season so completely.

I'm not a huge fan of the shift either. I think his original conception as a morally righteous anti-villain will provide greater nuance and perhaps allow the writers to set up an interesting dynamic in his clashes with Arrow.
