The Outback is one of the couple there that aren’t sliderless minivans, but the point still stands. It’s not an SUV and it’s economy isn’t anything special.
1. Not everyone wants a performance car. Let’s be real, the take rate of a “Hot Crosstrek” will be minimal and not worth the development/regulations to get it to market.
And somehow this little Subaru has far more off road chops than the majority of Jeep/4-Runner buyers will ever need.
The Outback’s economy “isn’t terrible”, but still, 33 mpg highway from a lifted wagon isn’t anything to write home about.
