Where do you draw the line between telling important stories and not wanting to see yet another hardship porn featuring brown children? Why are brown children’s stories only worth telling in the context of abject misery? For the love of Pete, no more Beasts, whether they be of No Nation or of the Southern Wild. No

Will it be as good as By the Sea?

Pass. If I want to see a movie about Vietnam War/Cambodia, I’ll watch The Killing Fields. The trailer narration is kind of dated, but this is a phenomenal film.

The $1M includes punitive damages because the couple was found to have acted in malice. It wasn’t intended as a damages figure that only represents her lost earnings.

pass

Regardless if she lost this much money in business, punitive damages are just that: punitive. Not only are they recouping this womans livelihood, reputation, and emotional distress, they are deterring this couple and many other people from doing things like this ever again. Same reason youre reading this on Jezebel

I read the WaPo article this morning - she demonstrated that prior to this couple charging forward with their public shaming crusade she was booked months in advance and had a thriving business in Dallas for years. Since the crusade she has sign two couples. Two. She had gone through her savings and retirement fund.

The Jezebel post is a brief summary. I recommend reading the full Washington Post article if you haven’t already done so. Umbra’s comment explained the effect on Polito’s business, but consider also the Moldovan’s intent: she wrote “We are hoping that our story makes the news and completely ruins her business,” and

In the original story she says the fee that they refused to pay was well-explained and that the passage was in bold. Then the couple freaked out and her people had a back-and-forth of many emails explaining what was in the contract (again). All that was left to do was, I don’t know, draw a picture for these two

Yeah, I read the Washington Post story, and it could be a lot shorter if it just said “a lot of people didn’t read the original contractand decided to go to war over $125, but upon reading everyone went ‘uh-oh, our bad, nvm’”.

They literally destroyed her successful business; it’s not completely unbelievable that a previously in demand wedding photog could have pulled in that amount in the couple of years since the wedding, not to mention emotional damages.

Lawyer here. God yes! Fucking read the contract!!

Fuck these people.

And this is why, as a graphic designer, I absolutely refuse to design anything wedding related. Getting married seems to bring out the absolute worst in people.

The couple seem like the sort of people who:

Lloyd’s would have made Kanye undergo a complete medical exam (probably including psych) before issuing such an enormous completion bond. But sick isn’t always predictable, and while his claim is legitimate, show business can be brutal about accommodating such things.

This is why some people say drugs are bad.

I may not have understood a lot of what I just read, but it sure entertained me while I read it. So, ten points to Gryffindor?

Day drinking?
