The special editions did well in theaters where I grew up. I definitely think it added to the resurgence. It was also around this time I stopped seeing reruns of Star Wars on tv.

I agree, think every season should be self contained, I wouldn't suggest it be otherwise. POI did a great job and with every new season they drew upon and built on what happened before. They were definitely not "winging" it with POI and with this. There is an outline somewhere of what they are going to do.

Overall story started to stink last season. Still some awesome funny moments, just have a hard time rooting for the main guy when he says or does something stupid.
