I’ve always hated Start-Stop.

I think they are just not refined enough.

Same, but with a Clarity. I take Midwest-length roadtrips often, and while I could drive a short range EV for commuting and use my wife’s van for roadtrips, having a short-range EV that could double as a hybrid roadtripper was was the best way to lower my CO2 footprint at my budget.

Yes and no.

All excellent, excellent points! This kind of discussion is why I love this site.

The volume density (MJ/L) is a serious consideration in consumer grade/light duty vehicles, and to be quite clear, I don’t think H2 will ever gain much traction there. But I think the specific energy (MJ/kg) is what dominates in large, heavy-duty vehicles.

The Tesla crowd likes to make fun, but all the “long range” viewpoints the Toyota rep conveyed to you remain true. The physics and chemistry do actually point to a larger role for hydrogen long term and the Long Beach Port Trials for FCV trucks is going great, as are the bus pilot programs in China. Toyota is working

Shortcomings of hydrogen in light duty vehicles aside, I really like this front end design for Toyota. Sure it still has an oversized grille which is partially fake, but the front end isn’t nearly as overwrought and jagged as Toyota’s usual.

I agree with the InsideEVs commenters -- this artist needs to turn in his badge and copy of photoshop and seek a new career.

TENTS! GAPS!

I believe thats a master battery control module/ cooling

Yeah, that’s the gist of it. Of course, Polestar may have designed their own inverter and decided that losing the frunk was worth it to have a rectangular, easy-to-assemble inverter package. I don’t know, I wasn’t in the room.

That’s the inverter/motor driver! Notice the three parallel wires going to the motor.

Polestar has previously announced a $63k US launch MSRP, with an eventual base MSRP of “around” $45k, with some quoting 55k. The ≈6.6k performance pack is likely part of the launch edition.

What kind of madman looks at this car and says, “Yeah, we’re not making that,” and lets it gather dust while building more anonymous mid-90s sedans?

Not sure. I do a lot of fact-checking and maybe that’s too irritating. Barring that, I typically link my sources whenever I make a claim, and that might look too spammy.
