For obscure characters, why not open a reservation for a certain amount of time on their own website, like a true pre-order. Advertise it, let it take orders for a good 1-2 weeks, then ACTUALLY MANUFACTURE THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE TAKEN ORDERS FOR.

Yeah I’m still baffled I actually managed to get the Splatoon 3-pack pre-order. I’ve literally never been able to pre-order an amiibo.

Also, hey Nintendo, you know what else would help? No more retailer exclusive amiibo.

I can’t fully blame them, but this just seems like yet another classic case where folks are saying “HERE NINTENDO TAKE OUR MONEY” and Nintendo is like “meh, effort”. I can’t say how much the port workers strike impacted them, but it’s still very clear that some figurines are being scalped at ludicrous rates.
