Why not put a second 2nd base about 1-2 feet behind(towards center) the real 2nd base? Back base is for fielder, front base for runner? I mean, I realize there is a bit more to it than that, but it would be safer.

The last time I played gym ball that’s all anyone was doing....heaving up terrible 3's every time they had the ball. Definitely different than the game I was playing 10-15 years ago.
