I kind of think people can change if they want to. If I hadn’t changed, I’d probably be on the road to divorce. I realized last year that my anxiety was slowly eroding my relationship, so I’ve spent this past year working on me. My husband similarly realized that I was never going to be anxiety-free, so he’s been

So asking if we should avoid rushing to judgment and giving this guy a chance to defend himself - that’s impermissible at this point, right?

Rick James locked a woman in his basement for six days, raped her repeatedly, and burned her with his pipe. When he died he received loving tributes from the same music press now prosecuting the case against PWR BTTM.

Okay, playing devil’s advocate here because that seems to be the role I often play here, but this makes me feel uncomfortable.

Seems weird that allegations, not convictions, can cost a livelihood when it is dependent upon the public. It is not like say ESPN i.e. firing someone for being accused. I guess no one wants to be associated with the band, I get it, but it seems kind of censorship-y,

Looks like they’re hitting RCK BTTM

I don’t know how I feel about this. On one hand, I believe in believing any woman who says she’s been sexually assaulted. But I ALSO believe in innocent until proven guilty.

Um... so, like, even if you view them in the worst possible light, they’re clearly not the worst artists out there. Didn’t Eazy E intentionally/recklessly infect dozens if not hundreds of women with HIV? And Cee-Lo admitted to drugging (and raping?) women and then performed at the Super Bowl and the Grammys, I wonder

This isn’t a well known artist. That’s why it’s so swift.

I’m all for choosing not to listen to, support, or otherwise acknowledge an artist you find morally repugnant. I fortunately don’t like Ted Nugent’s music (though “Stranglehold” is listenable) regardless of how much of a fuckhead he is.

Predates streaming etc, but I worked for HMV when Gary Glitter became an unperson... Only other example that springs to mind.

It is VERY surreal and I can’t recall a backlash this extreme. There are lots of other artists who have been accused of worse who are available for all forms of streaming. I’m not an advocate for PWR BTM, their actions or music but the swiftness is frieghtening.

This just proves what I’ve always believed: bicyclists are history’s greatest monsters.

Not one person in this thread has significant knowledge of what occurred, but false accusations are fairly uncommon.

Has anyone heard anything more about the allegations against Michael Gira of Swans? As far as I can tell, nothing came of it. As a music fan, I tend to just take the wait and see approach when things like this happen. Shit will either continue to come out about them if they’re truly awful people, or it won’t. PWR

“give the victim the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise?”

Yeah if you’re trying to get an honest answer about that question from Super Serious Internet People who have always acted within the lines of acceptable morality all of the time and never do anything because they never leave their houses, you’re not gonna get much traction on the “everybody makes mistakes” front.

What does that even mean? Bye Facebook. You’re not very smart, Instagram!

Stop pretending you have any knowledge of what occurred and admit your viewpoint is based on activism and ideology and not evidence.

the manager has to call them victims or they will be accused of victim blaming/silencing, which would be death to the band basically. thats why this whole post is pretty interesting
