The extended edition added a lot of scenes, mainly battle scenes but to be brutally honest they were awesome, showed a couple Buddys just to make sure and they said it made the movie seem 10x better

Maybe the cleanup after costs more than CGI? (This is just a guess) cleaning up that much blood would be a real effort if they ever wanted to use the set again
