Meowton, we got a problem...

My kids said “on accident” 40 years ago. Who knows where they heard it?

I’m sick of seeing “turned him into police.”

The title also recognizes the error and cops to it.

What is the source of ‘on accident?’ I have two daughters, four years apart (94 and 98). The older one says by accident and the other says on accident. There has to be an influencer that the younger one caught and the older didn’t.

The worst is effect vs affect. Drive’s me nuts.

Rules you should’ve learned well before leaving grade school.

English is the worst.” Hah! Try Japanese. No future tense, no word for “humor,” various levels of politeness, lots of homonyms (which is why puns are popular there). Not to mention 3 alphabets. Easier to pronounce, though.

And how ‘decimate’ stopped meaning ‘to reduce by 10%’ and now means ‘destruction.’

Great article, and lots of fun. Thank you.

If you’re using a word or phrase incorrectly, keep doing it because the longer it’s misused, the more justifiable it becomes.

The double “t” is toughest as there is no equivalent sound in English. It’s like a hard “d” and a soft “t”. The accent is in the first character so, “TTEOK-guk” I actually think “ddeok-guk” is closer to the actual sound.

Please tell us how to pronounce the name of this interesting soup.

Hey, I just had this for lunch today!

I’m trying to decide on what to make for lunar new year and this looks bomb. I just wish H Mart, 99 Ranch or any other small asian store weren’t an hour drive each way.  I’ve never found tteok in any store locally.

With clams is the best version. You really taste the clams in the broth. I can taste it now.

I also feel the shallow spoons help with the fact that it comes screaming hot. My partner is disturbed that I grew up as a child with a regularly burned mouth,

ROILING!!! YESSSSSSSS!!!!

I looove a good soondubu jjigae, but I have yet to perfect a home cooked version. I have all the proper ingredients but getting prep or ratios spot on is elusive. I can make a good version, just not as good as my fav restaurant spot which unfortunately is about 1000 miles away. Mixed tiny baby clams and small whole

Fuck me, that sounds fantastic.
