The cost doesn’t hurt for persuading against the death penalty, though. The phenomenal cost of the Iraq war has been just as (if not more) powerful and effective an argument as the moral aspect.

I walked by my boss’s door and told him and he said “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” I am literally never leaving this job.

I’m against it for a lot of reasons. I think the fact that at least 4% of people sentenced to death are innocent is reason enough to oppose it.

First off, you shouldn’t feel awful for having opinions. What you feel is a very very common thing, even among liberals. Many people think the death penalty is wrong, but they still feel like in some cases someone can do something atrocious that they deserve to die.
I do not personally agree with that. I am personally

GIRL THE PEOPLE IN MY OFFICE CHEERED.

Yeah, it’s chilling. I posted this in another thread, but it bears repeating:

IF YOUR MORALS AND ETHICS ARE CONTINGENT ON THE PEOPLE YOU ARE INTERACTING WITH, YOU HAVE NEITHER MORALS OR ETHICS.

Significantly more cost effective than the years of appeals that are no doubt on their way.

No, that’s actual polling data.

After deliberating for about 14 and a half hours, a jury in Massachusetts has voted to put convicted Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death.

Yes. And it will be ten times as expensive as a life sentence.

So this means we have another decade of appeals to look forward to, right?

I’m super sad about this. I’m from MA, and I know that my state is overwhelmingly against the death penalty, and even overwhelmingly against the death penalty for Tsarnaev, specifically. We should not be in the business of executing people. I don’t believe that counts as justice.

I think she’s trying to say that Rosa Parks is more relevant in our day and age. That might actually be something that could be argued for even!

I was expecting her to talk about Harriet Tubman not being the ideal person to represent capitalism, and I can understand that...but this...what did she say? I have no idea what she means.

Why do people think saying “no offense” is a magic phrase that protects you from getting yelled at for a shitty opinion? People are going to get offended no matter your intention. Just stop it and say what you want to say.
