If you're not doing anything big. then you can just leave the project settings alone. If you close the New Sequence window, you can instead import footage, drag it to the "New Sequence" button, and it'll create a new sequence that matches the clip's settings exactl.y

What he means is that you can achieve that wider field of view with the Canon camera (or ANY DSLR), and quite easily as well.
