Yeah, you’re taking more criticism than you deserve.
Yeah, you’re taking more criticism than you deserve.
I think that the backlash is fair, and the OP really should have anticipated it.
Did you mother outright specify eye liner as the one forbidden cosmetic? I suppose every cosmetic can be considered low class in certain contexts.
It is not a contest. Many commenters are describing their well-off upbringings, and nobody is criticizing them. The original poster in this thread is taking so much heat because she is describing her upbringing as poor, when, that really seems like a massive overstatement.
eyeliner is a low class thing? I am a man and I was not aware of that connotation.
She actually does write that she was “quite poor.”
How the hell can a store bought kit be that impressive?
damn, rabbit tacos? Gotta try that.
Where did you grow up?
That is so hard to read. At what age did you become aware enough to do that?
How did you or your family respond?
I don’t think this person was “poor,” but she probably wasn’t rich either. Going to private college doesn’t necessarily mean wealthy, maybe she got a scholarship or something. But, going on trips to Europe is likelier evidence of wealth. Even so, a lot of poor immigrants make regular trips to their home nations.…
Were you actually poor, or just not “really rich”?
When I was a kid I thought “rich people live in two story houses, middle class people live in one story houses, and poor people live in apartments.” We had a one story house.
Yeah, as I mentioned, I like Townshend’s “Slit Skirts” more than “Teenage Wasteland” which is really titled “Baba O’Reilly.” Honestly, I do prefer Slit Skirts, but one additional reason is that I can reasonably fantasize about me performing Slit Skirts. It is hard to imagine me performing “Baba O’Reilly” because it is…
Yeah, it’s really sad how many young people killed themselves in the name of Kurt Cobain.
I love Lou Reed’s later work. New York in particular, but that is riddled with super specific dated references. I only like “Sword of Damocles” off of “Magic and Loss” but perhaps I should revisit. I also love “Slit Skirts,” it sounds like the musical version of a John Irving novel. I also love Keith Richards’s “diss…
Gosling has acting chops. Have you seen “Half Nelson” where he plays a drug addicted but functioning high school teacher? Or “The Believer” where he plays a self-loathing Jew turned neo Nazi terrorist? Great performances. Admittedly, these are both over a decade old. I liked him in Crazy Stupid Love, but that role…
I wonder if the complaining passenger can be sued? If the complainer lied about Blanco’s behavior, than yeah. But if the guy calls the cops and just says, “this guy is freaking me out,” I think it is on the cops to decide to arrest or not.
Did you know that after WWI there were many men left with horrific facial wounds. In Britain at least there were park benches painted blue for them to sit on, which would give passersby sufficient warning to avert their gazes. Many of these men were so ashamed of their appearances, they lived reclusive lives and…
