Other news articles I’ve seen have said (as this article does) that the protesters broke though a locked gate to enter the community. I’m curious if that’s true and, if so, why they opted for property damage? Because typically the protesters haven’t done things like that (looters are a different story obviously).

I’m a dairy farmer. For some people, there’s a misconception that small family farms are bastions of impeccable animal welfare while ‘factory farms’ are blood-soaked centers of animal abuse.

“Joe Biden’s “I’ll punch anything that doesn’t agree with me” is just old man, toxic masculinity bullshit that is tiring and ineffective, and Sanders’ curmudgeonly always annoyed empty rhetoric just feels blah.”

People ghost in a non-dating context, too, though. A guy friend ghosted me a couple years ago b/c he started dating someone and either felt he shouldn’t have a female friend, or, was just all caught up in new relationship stuff and didn’t give a shit about communicating with me in any way. Then when they broke up

Smoked sausage is the hero of most of my lazy dinners.

An easy rule of thumb that won’t get you into trouble except with the snobbiest of food snobs is to serve white wine with white meats and fish, serve red wine with red meat.

My favorite, easy ‘baked meat’ is a pork loin. I usually buy the pre-marinated ones. They’re SO easy and everyone is always pleased. While they’re baking, you can whip up the sides.

My favorite, quick go-to is to throw a bunch of frozen veggies in a large skillet, whatever I have on hand (usually tri-color peppers, mushrooms, onions, green beans, lima beans, peas) with some butter, seasonings (which can go in a bunch of different directions), garlic, and then slice up some smoked sausage when the

“Like many people who share my upper Midwestern heritage, I have a firm recall of different relish trays I’ve encountered throughout life. This is because when I was growing up, nearly every supper club meal or special house party had a relish tray.”

I have one that was a gift from an older relative. I think in 10 years I’ve used it once. I mean honestly, a crystal platter, it goes with nothing else I own (I prefer more of a West Elm aesthetic).

We don’t consider it ‘fancy’, it’s just something a little more extra than what’s served for your regular weeknight dinners at home.

Very! I generally hate stepping foot in a Dollar General, but now that they’re everywhere, I’ve discovered they often have better prices than, say, Walmart, on a couple things: [some] cleaning supplies and nuts (pistachios/cashews are what I buy). In case you need any of those while you’re hunting for Cream of Bacon

LOL @ no more than 50% ranch! The only thing I dip in ranch is sub-par pizza (the good stuff doesn’t need it).

In my small town, I’m not sure, but most of us work in or go to the nearest small city (~25 mins away, population ~30,000) at least a couple times per week, and there I can find Bob’s Red Mill brand at Walmart, Meijer, and Kroger - rye flour, almond flour, flax meal, etc. all the usual.

I’m a Midwesterner of deep Midwestern stock and I’m somewhat baffled as to why you think we’re mostly subsisting on Jell-o salad and cream of whatever soup - at least, wrt Midwestern food post-1985 or so. After college, I spent over a decade living in some of the most cosmopolitan parts of the U.S. and abroad before

Clafoutis is SO easy to make and SO delicious, especially if you don’t like cloying desserts. My go-to recipe is this one, which elevates an already delicious dessert with the addition of cardamom, which I love. You can use pretty much any fruit.

LOL too good!

Yeah I specifically avoid Purina dog food b/c of how often I find them on lists of recalled foods and generally the worst to feed your dog.
