As someone who has owned E46 and E92 M3's as well as B7 and (current car) b8 S4's: No contest if you are a wrencher/tuner: I f&cking love the Tq of the audis and the AWD on most short "club-type" tracks kicks ass. M3 hype is just that, though I keep an E46 track car because it's so darn bullet proof!

This stuff has been going on for years: Brake rotors, "OE" brake pads, etc. There are some US Government cases against them where they counterfeited AIRCRAFT PARTS. I've done supply chain work there before looking at this stuff and once visited a complete mall in Shenzen where everything in it was counterfeit.....
