I get conflicted sometimes about my car fetish. I spend way too many hours a week watching videos of people just talking about or driving a car. A healthy chunk of the videos are presented by people I don’t like. But I keep watching them. I’ve watched like 16 vagabond falcon episodes. I even watched the last minute of

Volvo’s argument isn’t bullshit. The point they are making is completely valid: A system that a) encourages drivers to be less vigilant, by allowing them to step out of the control loop, but b) relies ultimately on the drivers to remain vigilant, is a system that is inherently unsafe. I think that they are right about

So...you don’t read the article and then skip down to offer your take on a Volvo that MIGHT have been 6 years old but you’re not quite sure because you don’t really know the model and year of the car you looked at?

I’ve made this point before: lots of manufacturers have semi-autonomous systems, in other words an advancement on the combo of lane keep assist and radar cruise control. They all have kept the safety feature of the driver needing to keep their hands on the wheel. Tesla hasn’t. That’s basically the only difference,

Do you own shares of tesla or why do you take his opinion so personally?

So Volvo is slow to react because their level 4 system won’t be done until 2020, but Tesla is on the cutting edge of technology since their level 4 system won’t be done until 2020?

I actually agree that level 3 autonomy is dangerous. If your Tesla runs into problems with machine vision or road conditions, it’s first going to try to dump control back to you, and then if you refuse, it’ll come to a stop.

At first, I thought that Victor’s statement was an unfounded attack at Tesla, accusing Autopilot of being a dangerously inferior system.

I don’t think he’s trying to unfairly downplay Tesla’s system. I think, as another commented mentioned, this guy is responding to the Cult of Tesla. We’re all really excited about autonomous driving, and Tesla’s currently got the closest consumer-available system. Sure, it’s cool to see a Tesla swerve to miss an

That car does not have the pedestrian detection/auto braking system installed, it can’t fail if it’s not there to start with. Just an idiot owner.

Volvo’s “issue” is that a Level 3 autonomous system is inherently dangerous and shouldn’t be used at all, due to the allowance of distraction for the driver but reliance on the driver to take over in emergency conditions.

They started getting interesting just a little earlier...

Lying, selling dodgy cars, letting businesses go bankrupt.... Sounds more like a junky then a Rockstar to me!

Certainly. This guy:
