I had a trainer for a while, and he made me do what he called 3-2-1’s. Walk for 3 mins, jog for 2, sprint for 1. Repeat 6 times. The change in intensity is great for burning calories.

That sweet spot has to do with air intake, also. I can’t remember where I got this info, but something about being able to breathe somewhat normally while walking as opposed to panting/gasping while running, allows the body to burn calories more efficiently.
