I’ve made it a point to check out more of these “political class” types as they cross my radar. Interviews, backstory, what have you. You get that condescension on both sides. Which makes sense, given that up until somewhat recently both parties were on the same neoliberalism train. Not to say they still aren’t but…

Given it’s about 50/50 whether or not the universe is deterministic, I’m not sure you can reasonably make that statement.
Sure, but then, what if christianity was just a practical joke that got out of hand too? Or judaism? The jews are famous for their sense of humor. Maybe that’s not a coincidence.
Personally, I’d put more stock in the person telling me to not practice the religion that was forced on me than any of the other people involved.
