I have a very vague memory about how farmed quartz ends up with large crystals, which have some disadvantages. But I can’t remember it. Looking at their website, they make quartz and ceramic based sensors and I don’t see a clear advantage of quartz over ceramic in any of the specifications.

I have a question that might be as dumb as the speaker of this story.

My guess is that the coolers didn’t get cleaned properly before installation and put debris into the engine.   I’ve seen stuff like that have debris issues before.
