My one summer intern as a Mechanical engineer was to go around and fix computers for everyone because I was the only guy in the office that knew how to setup DOS to access the right type of memory on bootup. But that was a LONG time ago.

One thing to realize with the news cycle is “if it bleeds it leads”. Boeing has F-ed up by the numbers on a couple planes. Now every single cockup, even something like putting the wrong date on an inspection log because you didn’t realize that April didn’t have 31 days becomes international news.
Yeah of all the scary parts of this story, that one was the worse.
Yes, logic.. but it doesn’t always work.
Yep, getting in an accident to avoid one isn’t an irrational fear. For me I was just learning to drive and starting to drive at night. As I was driving, a shadow moved across my vision and I still swear I saw a pedestrian running across the road in front of me. I swerved and nearly got into a head on accident in my…
I worked at a place that used college interns. It was weird. In many respects, the college interns were the most productive employees.
This reminds me of the show The Detectorists.
A lot of these aren’t irrational. I’ve known people killed by deer. I had a plastic bag cause my car to overheat when it got stuck on the radiator, I’ve almost been killed by wrong way drivers, etc. Shoot, growing up, the 14th street bridge had a section fall out and lead to 2 cars ending up in the Potomac during rush…
Yeah, that ONE guy you know that drives an Altima and makes you think that everyone that drives an Altima is a raging moron.
On the other hand, owning a $100k+ truck might mean that the entire concept is moot because the panel gap is longer than what might be in danger.
“please do not stick anything else in there for clicks, I beg you.”
This is NOT going to end well.
I think New Mexico is all influenced by the weirdos in Albuquerque. From guys with a single nostril and a Flock of Seagulls haircut that steal snorkels and donut shop employees that serve rabid weasels to customers and the amount of Sauerkraut served, it’s no wonder that the entire state is full of road rage. (and I…
Well it’s been really enlightening to have someone that knows so much about engineers, engineering classes, and engineering experience teach me about what Engineers are like and what makes a good one or not.
Talent pipelines are critical for a companies long term success.
I don’t think you get it.
Yeah. A lot of companies prey on the idealistic.
Here’s what happened to most of my student friends. We all had two options in college around our sophomore year.
In all honesty, without the belief you can change the world for the better, you won’t graduate as an engineer. There are a LOT easier degrees to get that lead to just as much or more chances of making money and having success.
The Model T was Ford’s hubris and I see a parallel with Elon.
