Some menus in games were just initially constructed in a way that happens to scale nicely, i.e. lots of vector graphics/fonts. Take these games, run them in an emulator at 1080p and you get the same effect.

Wow, what a narrow-minded fanboy. Just because all a game needs to be fun is good gameplay doesn't mean that they can't strive to be more. The presence of cutscenes doesn't automagically make a game worse, and in fact can make a game better.

I don't think this is a big deal. Online services aren't free to maintain. I'd rather buyers of used games have to pay a small fee for online play in their used games than have everyone pay a monthly fee for online play in all their games.
