I would rank Hellboy II way over and above the original. The first one is a lot of fun, but it feels compromised both in terms of budget and script (Agent Myers, ugh). The second one is just an amazing fusion of Mignola and Del Toro’s sensibilities and influences, and it isn’t afraid to make the monsters the heroes.
