I know. It can be hard sometimes to defend von Trier - who is, to be sure, a provocateur - but a poorly-delivered joke about finding out “he was a Nazi” because he had just learned that his actual father was a German (as opposed to the Jewish man he had believed his whole life was his father) is hardly the

It has problems (watch that shit absolutely creeeaaaaaaakkkk along at higher turn numbers), but I put tons of hours into Birth of the Federation. There’s the blueprint in there for an absolutely perfect turn-based galaxy-spanning strategy game and I’m here for it if they ever give it another shot.

If I’m reading it right, the only dancers that are supposed to be South Asian are the two main characters and everyone else was a white British person. If they had South Asian dancers in the “white British” roles, would that have been better somehow?

The irony here is that in the film, there ARE no Indian dancers outside of Ram and Ahktar: The whole point of the scene and indeed some of the lyrics is that they were getting kicked out of a white guy’s party and threw down via dance (they’re also there to try and find a kidnapped girl that’s being held there, and

I gotta share this story. Last night at work I witnessed overwhelming racism:

I was on lunch and it was shift change mid-blizzard (Ontario’s having some interesting weather rn). One of the two cashiers went on break. The only cashier on was a young Black girl. So this older female customer goes to her line and actually

That’s because in this context liberal has two separate meanings.  Liberal as a political term means left.  Liberal in a freedom sense means more open.  Right now calls for silencing people they don’t like is coming from a decidedly illiberal set of liberals.

That may work for Milo specifically but there are people of his ilk like Ben Shapiro who thrive on that kind of environment. Public debates aren’t really a good forum for substantive disagreement because there’s no way to live fact-check the participants.

Plus, as much as I am not a fan of the “carnival cruise ship with a glass jaw” Galaxy class, the Ent-D looked amazing on the big screen.

Picard imparts the lesson that taking a fan-favorite character from a previous show and VIVISECTING THEIR EYEBALL OUT OF THEIR HEAD = “good drama”

Crucially it also taught that logic divorced from empathy is useless (although it did perpetuate the myth that emotions are illogical extend of a key component of logic). But yes, more than anything Star Trek often called pilloried as being the show where people sat around and talked instead of having exciting action,

Voyage Home feels like an excellent episode of the show, which itself went back to the “ “travel to our present time” well” a lot itself, even without counting the oblique “we found a Nazi/Roman/hippie planet” pseudo time travel stories. I think Khan is a better movie, but not a better example of the show.

I’m sure I’m an outlier here but I really loved the first JJ one and am not outraged by Into  Darkness. They were actually the first things to get me into the franchise as a whole since I didn’t really grow up with it.

I’ve disliked everything and everyone in the Star Trek reboot.....except for Karl Urban.  Love Karl Urban.

The whole trying to keep Khan a surprise twist was ridiculous. Cumberbatch is great, but Khan shouldn’t be a British white guy, Naveen Andrews would have killed that role. It’s an iconic, juicy villain role that actually calls for an Indian actor, and they get the whitest man on the planet to play him, still salty

Oh you are completely correct.  It just still hurts all the same.  A true crime show that wasn't really true crime.  Gone too soon.

I spent a fortune ten years ago to get one of the last copies out there of the theatrical cuts on DVD. So I have that, at least, but I’m still furious that Lucas is such an jerk that with HIS ENTIRE FAN BASE asking for the theatrical cuts on blu-ray/4k what have you, he insists that his cuts are the best ones so no

Han shot. Period.

There’s no “first”.

Han shot, Greedo died, “Sorry about the mess.”

Yep. Home of the worst goddamned bloody Mary in the city.

I went Bonkers with the Pepsi points, i mean not as bonkers as this guy, but yeah, dumpster diving, neighborhood recycling bin scoring, drinking untold amounts of the stuff. In the end I was able to get one of those big puffy Starter jackets and a nice indoor/outdoor basketball

Your comment got kinja’d, hard.
