It’s basically the same damn ship. All they did was modernize the look of the engines, really. And they were right to do so. Even the NX-01 has the blue lights on the warp nacelles.

There is another human guy. The black man on the bridge.

I’ll admit that isn’t much. I don’t even know if he’s ever had a line.

I was personally hoping Saru would be made captain. I was worried Burnham would be. Glad they didn’t go that route.

Actually, they stated in the beginning of TMP that it took place 18 months after the end of the five-year mission. That places it roughly 3.5 years after “Turnabout Intruder.” That’s why they stuck so much makeup on everybody, trying to cover up a decade worth of aging. When Harve Bennett took over, he decided not to

Fuck off, CaptainMidnight.

I’d like to point out that the Klingons were not consistently portrayed with darker skin. Kor and Kang were, although it should be noted that Michael Ansara was Middle Eastern, not white. But Koloth and his crew were all white. So were the Klingons in “Friday’s Child,” “Elaan of Troyius” and “A Private Little War.”

In terms of technical, proficient skill, no he wasn’t all that. But he did a lot to elevate the role of a bass player in a rock band, and he has a lot of bass parts that were really a lot of fun, interesting melodic parts that you don’t hear too often in bass players. I like his inventiveness, his playfulness on the

Michael Jackson wrote a ton of his songs. Not on his early 70s albums, sure - but he was just a kid. But he wrote three songs on Off the Wall, four songs on Thriller and all but one song on Bad, which is the kind of progression you want to see from a young, up-and-coming R&B singer. After Bad, Jackson wrote or

Your professor was right about one thing: French composers from that time period straight up sucked.

I’d say that Paul is a pretty good musician. He is able to play a lot of instruments quite competently. I don’t know if I’d say Paul was a great musician, except for maybe his bass playing.

Thing is, I don’t believe it was that hard to get a good drum track from Ringo. If he was as bad as Jones says he was, Martin would never have stood for it.

I mean, they recorded their entire debut album in a single day. Ringo clearly knew how to lay down a beat.

You forgot “The Ballad of John and Yoko.” John and Paul banged that one out all by themselves in a studio one night because George and Ringo weren’t around.

Wings had at least one great album, which was Venus And Mars.

Wings wasn’t the best band in the world, but they still got to play music in front of hundreds of thousands of people, make a ton of money, and tour the world.

So, I’m going to go on the record here and say that there are a lot of worse accomplishments in

Oh yeah, there’s no way that rumor is true. Ringo had a very distinct sound when he drummed. Paul was a competent drummer but he wasn’t at all distinctive.

I’m guessing Quincy Jones has never listened to AC/DC, because no one listening to Cliff Williams play the exact same bass line for four decades would think he’s better than Paul McCartney.

I know I’m jumping into this conversation late, but I missed the episode due to the Superbowl and then getting drunk (but not wrecking the city of Philadelphia), and I read this comment chain on my phone, where commenting is a pain in the butt.

I mostly agree with what you said about TNG’s development of new aliens,

Peter Rabbit isn’t a frelling millenial. He’s an ill-behaved child. And they exist in every generation.

I didn’t think much of the Paddington trailer, but after I heard all the buzz about Paddington 2, I watched Paddington. And it is a lot better than the trailers made it appear.

I doubt Disney will let them make an R-rated Star Wars. Disney likes selling toys to children.

It’s supposed to come back some time this year.

That’s great!
