Yes, but those two actions were completely different. Kirk and Spock were stranded on Earth three centuries before they were even born. When confronted, Kirk admitted to stealing the clothes because they had no money.

Mercer, on the other hand, had a starship in orbit that could have synthesized their clothes in

I don’t usually come to Roddenberry’s defense, but I genuinely think he wanted to portray homosexuality as a normal way of life. I think American culture wasn’t ready and the television censors would never have allowed such things when Roddenberry was alive. His track record wasn’t great, but his hands were tied.

I didn’t care for that episode much, and I don’t like Vash, but it was fun to let Picard do his Indiana Jones thing.

But I had just watched the Worf+Jadzia Risa episode when I wrote my comment, and I was still bitter about how terrible it was.

That’s fair enough. I don’t have that much of a problem with it, and Isaac is such a badass that I kind of enjoyed that bit. I mean, Isaac can be a little condescending towards humans, but he really is a superior life form in many ways.

My biggest problem with the way religion was depicted here is that it was shown almost exclusively as this hostile, negative force. There was never any effort made to demonstrate why it might be appealing to worship Kelly.

For example, one of the goals of Christianity is a close, personal friendship with Jesus.

To be fair, the religious right in the Middle East isn’t exactly giving religion a good name either.

Curse Kinja’s byzantine editing system.

The Next Generation did the exact opposite of what you just said on several occasions. For example, in “First Contact” the aliens basically decide that they want nothing to do with the Federation and Picard’s eloquent speeches. Then there was the episode where Picard tries to “fix” the human boy, but realizes he’s

Has Kelly never heard the phrase, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”? Has she never cracked open a history book? I mean, it was painfully obvious that her attempts to fix her mistake would be a resounding failure, and she has thousands of years of human history to demonstrate why.

Roddenberry was very sexually liberated.

It’s a special kind of bad.

Let’s be honest. Even The Next Generation got more mileage out of the Maquis (Preemptive Strike) than Voyager did.

I mean, even “Threshold” from Voyager had some good ideas. Shitty delivery, but an interesting premise. “Sub Rosa” was just...man.

I’m pretty sure that has a lot more to do with broadcast television in the 80s and 90s than it does any ethos on Star Trek. Okana slept with half the women on the Enterprise and no one batted an eye.

I thought she was good in a couple season seven episodes where she got to let loose a bit. The episode where she’s hallucinating and the episode she becomes a commander. Not the best episodes (though the second one is generally enjoyable), but much better than what Gates got in season 7.

For all the mediocre that was TNG’s seventh season, they did manage to give Deanna some meatier roles (amphibian notwithstanding).

For all of Roddenberry’s forward-thinking vision, I get the impression he was kind of a sexist. I mean, virtually every woman’s outfit in Star Trek (1966) was designed to appeal to the male gaze.

So I read the bit about “My Christmas Prince,” and I wondered, ‘Is that the new Netflix Christmas movie?’ So I went to Netflix, and sure enough, the film is “A Christmas Prince.”

God bless cheesy Christmas romances.

As much as I wish I could agree that DS9 was better, I find myself enjoying TNG more. But it’s a mix. I mean, from seasons 3-6, TNG is about as good of television sci-fi as was ever made. But that’s also true of DS9 from seasons 3-6 (sans the Worf/Jadzia nuptials).

So I kinda really feel like it does come down to
