I think the problem is the running time. 22 minutes just isn’t a lot of time to get these kinds of plots up and running.

I don’t know. The fact that they’re bothering to extend the first season suggests that they’ll renew it for season two, or at least that there’s a good chance they will.

Fox needs live-action comedies. New Girl is ending next year, and I don’t know how much longer Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be around either. The Orville

Apparently, this was supposed to be the second episode. So in terms of when it was filmed, this makes sense. It’s one of the pitfalls of television shows that aren’t heavily serialized: sometimes they air out of order.

I would just like to point out that Jane Austen would never have condescended to calling someone an ass. Her ability to cut a character down to size with eloquent, witty banter is unequaled.

That would actually probably be great, although I’d also want to mix some of those Sierra-style humorous death scenes.

Sadly, Fox never had any plans to order more episodes for The Orville. Hopefully we can get a longer second season.

TNG and VOY were often quite humorless (especially where Neelix was concerned), but TOS and DS9 were much more full of life.

Yes. Please. I want a cat on the bridge of the Orville.

Also, that gag of Isaac petting Gordon’s arm was great.

She’s also really good. I really want to check out Happy Endings, but I’m worried about how it ends, since it got cancelled prematurely. Is it still watching in spite of that?

Kurtwood Smith was single handedly responsible for all of that show’s best scenes. Although Debra Jo Rupp did great work too.

No one else could ever make “dumbass” so humiliating.

Kurtwood Smith is always worth watching.

Winger and Elliot both do good work in spite of the underwritten scripts, but that’s what you get from a professional.

Hey AV Club! You should also interview John Lithgow on what he did to become Winston Churchill! :D

I would just like to say that the 18th episode of the 2nd season of Star Trek was great.

Say what you want about Mr. Gibson, but damn if he doesn’t rock a killer beard!

I second this. I feel like season two of this show they’d have a much better handle on what kinds of stories do and don’t work.

You’re probably right, although I hope you’re not. I’ve genuinely enjoyed most of these episodes. With just a bit more effort, this show could be pretty great.

I’m thinking the same thing. It feels like there’s a missing step somewhere.

I know she’s MacFarlane’s girlfriend. I would still prefer a genuine ensemble show.

It’s been pretty decent up to this point, although Malloy and LaMar have definitely gotten the short end of the stick so far.

I think this is more of a B- than a C+ It was funny enough, and I actually liked the payoff of Barry’s chair at the end. But it did end up dragging there somewhere, though I can’t quite figure out exactly where.
