It's called allegory pal; it helps amplify his point, rather than resort to hollow jargon. But go on, find something to nitpick so you can establish yourself as the most informed white male (trademark).
Can't wait to see his breast cancer awareness pink jersey. With complimentary eye-black!
I vote eliminating the timeout; not only could coaches not micro manage, it would put the onus on the players to perform and run what's chosen. We'd have some interesting plays happening.
Force coaches to gamble, which they wont do, so thats probably a moot point.
My idea: after the two point conversion, a team can kick a 60-yard PAT for another two points, but it's double or nothing. Make it? You get your 10 points. Miss? Back down to six.
I sent in a complaint to the FCC regarding Pete Carroll's middle finger to basic human intelligence. Any reason why that is not on the list, Barry?
Far more likely to see football players turning to baseball and basketball.

Soldiers field?
"We shouldn't worry about brain injuries because the NFL might shut down and then I'd have to go get a real job" - Mike Florio
Paraphrasing: people dying in common jobs is just par for the course. Oh well, shit happens.
I still don't understand his reply to Ufford. Wtf does that even mean?
I think you are missing the point which is that NFL salaries do not account for future medical expenses from playing football. If you are a defense contractor and you go to Iraq...you get "hazard" pay because its dangerous. If you play in the NFL, you get paid without any hazard pay. If salaries accounted for…
I think his issue isn't with your main point: 98% of why salaries are so high is because they have incredible skills that people are willing to pay to watch. But if you're arguing that pay is 0% of why people join the military, then you're mistaken. There'd be a lot more people retiring like Borland if the money…
On the whole, this is an excellent post. Deadspin has done great work on the head-injury issue, and I applaud its rejection of the pussification argument others (like Florio) present. But one part of this post is just off.
I grew up loving the NFL, and bonding with my father at Soldiers Field in Chicago. I'm (perhaps sadly) at my happiest when watching a good football game.
*player watches decades of other players literally killing themselves and each other for a game* I don't want to kill myself. I think I'm going to retire.
Including Chris Borland, which is why he's retiring now and not asking his wife who she's talking to in 20 years.
