Yeah, I consider Television, Stooges, Modern Lovers, DEVO (started in the '72, early recordings from '75), Suicide, The Dictators, New York Dolls, Rocket from the Tombs, Captain Beefheart, etc., to all be part of the Proto-Punk thing.

I think in the (pointless) US vs. UK argument, I always thought that gave the US a leg-up. UK punk quickly had a somewhat singular definition and everything fit into a box of "punk". The US definition was more loose or vague, which to me seemed more…well…punk. Part of the definition given to punk (after the fact 1) h…

Correction: If Ray Harryhausen were to go back to "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger" or
"Jason and the Argonauts" and replace his stop motion characters with
CG, AND THEN TRIED TO PRETEND THAT THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS NEVER EXISTED AND ACTIVELY ATTEMPTED TO WITHHOLD THEIR RELEASE, I'd be equally as pissed off.

Everyone focuses on Star Wars SE. Let's do a little Empire:
-Luke's "Goofy Scream" (Ah-ho-ho-hooey) turning his decision not to join his father from a noble act to a wussie joke.
-Changing the line to R2-D2 from "you're lucky you don't taste very good" (ha!) to "You're lucky to be alive" (whah? A robot…alive? Is R2 a…

I thought Thora Birch went more the Christina Ricci route, looking for mostly oddball and indie parts. Unfortunately, even though she's worked consistently, her projects haven't been as interesting as Ricci's.

She is an amazing artist, and I can't wait to pick this up.

Who is "Starfucker, Inc." (NIN) about? (the most prominent rumor was Cortney Love)
What is "that" to which Meatloaf refers?
Who is "Cracker" (ohGr) about? http://www.youtube.com/watc…
That was Steve Stevens?!? I had no idea. (…first concert I ever went to was to see Billy Idol and The Cult. I'm old.)
Agreed on Daft Punk, and I don't think "Vegas" by Crystal Method should be blown off so easily as a place not to start (even if it did get overplayed on commercials and movie trailers). Also, The Orb and System 7 should not be forgotten. Most of all: Juno Reactor (what an AMAZING live show, what with the 8 singing…
I love/hate it. The music is great, but I think after that score and "Good Will Hunting", he got stuck in an atonal rut with his dramatic scores. He lost a lot of what I liked about his early scores for a long time (hooks and themes).
Personally, thanks for asking. I didn't know that about TNBC, and found that fascinating to read; and more satisfying than his "bad ears" cop-out that he gave for years (if Pete Townshend still performs, then that's no excuse). I saw Boingo 6 times, and always look forward to hearing more about it. (really, though?…
It was a live-action Betty Boop cartoon. I love it.
These two bands had the wussiest pansy fight I've seen, only second to the time I saw two guys in pastel polo shirts fighting in Harvard Square. Now Slayer vs. Gwar would be an interesting battle to watch. Or [insert band here] vs. The Butthole Surfers.
That's no moon. It's a space station.
