Only if you obsess on technique as opposed to art.  The original King Kong is incredibly primitive compared to today's film, yet it holds an emotional power that none of the newer remakes have been able to match.  Technique isn't everything; it should be a tool, not the be-all and end-all.

Well, if that's the case, then good.  I've heard from a lot of people how disappointed they are that they wouldn't be able to watch it if it's in 3D, so those of us who don't have perfect 20-20 vision will be able to enjoy the movie.

So that means that Jimsbo actually owns any of those devices?  Nice assumption there, Sparky.

So Smaug is going to look like a lizard in drag? Great, just what I needed.

    *Tito glares angrily*

I'm fine with the dwarves singing.  It's the ELVES' songs that made me want to disembowel something.

Frodo: "I can see it with my waking eyes!"
Sam: "So can I.  It's right over there."  *points to the big glaring eye*

If Kevin Smith had his way, that's EXACTLY how the film would have ended.

Is that more than 12 parsecs?

I know I couldn't stop thinking about it.  OMG I SO BETRAYYYYYYED!!!

I can't watch 3D because I don't have stereoscopic vision.  The only time I ever saw in three dimensions was during Captain Eo, when I decided to try and force the issue.  I sat there and WORKED my eyes into the right position (very tiring and a bit painful).  It all suddenly snapped into place… and I HATED it.  It

Yes, thank you.  What kind of doofus locks millions of people out of his movie?  And I thought this guy had brains.  More fool me.

Cameron needs to work out how to make a better beer sign, I guess.

How about a movie that puts the descendant of the Titanic's Captain on the deck of the Exxon Valdez?

Not to mention Handwavium, which enables Cameron to dismiss all the criticisms of his movies.

Somehow I don't think we're ever going to see Pocahontas with an 11-year-old princess.  Call me crazy, but I seem to sense a cultural reluctance around such an idea these days.

I find Bombadil goes down much better if I imagine Robin Williams in the role.

Probably that it's a book written specifically for children.  All that talking down to the reader, and the elves singing twee ridiculous la-la-la songs, and the basically simplistic storyline.  Not a satisfying book at all when read by an adult.

Since they didn't look like crap in the first place, I'm not sure I see your point.

Yep.  There's such a thing as too much detail, and Jackson, Cameron, and those who favor "progress" against artistry don't seem to understand that.  I don't WANT to see every hair on Bilbo's head, thank you.  I'd rather see a beautiful film that a hyperrealistic one.  Pity he couldn't have stuck with the great style
