That’s strange because I’ve read interviews with Guinness saying he wanted Ben to die. He was even hesitant to come back for The Empire Strikes Back. Guinness could simply be saving face but I doubt that given all I’ve read about the man.

Funny, I thought I had read somewhere where Alec Guinness thought the dialogue and role were hoakey and wanted the death to not have to return. Of course, I am perfectly willing to accept that he might have remembered it differently after being annoyed.
