No! There aren’t grey areas to this. Violence is violence. The ideas of “taking it like a man” or that “he had it coming” are bullshit that justify violence. You’re just saying this to justify violence when you get upset!

I think that actually dismissing it and not calling it an act of violence because it’s perceived as “mild” is a really really bad take. That’s like saying “it wasn’t full rape it was just mild rape so no big deal”, that attitude totally blurs the lines of what’s acceptable and what isn’t. This is like... the crux of…

I’d like to use this argument any time I don’t want to talk about something. “Yes, honey, I crashed the car while taking a selfie, but there’s a literal war happening, and . . . like pedophiles somewhere!”

It’s a crazy pills moment. Everyone that saw the Oscars witnessed a crime being committed. And some folks are falling over themselves to try to justify that crime rather than simply say that it’s a crime and it’s fucked up.

So many people genuinely believe “violence is only okay in situations that I personally find emotionally satisfying.”

It’s the only real reason that the death penalty still exists in the United States.

That may be because a man slapping a man is indeed an act of violence. A comparatively mild act of violence when put against an active warzone, certainly, but an act of violence nonetheless.

What’s crazy to me is how many people said something along the lines of “violence is bad but good for Will for sticking up for his wife.” Like fucking what? Your wife feeling bad that a comedian performing made jokes about her losing her from alopecia doesn’t justify physically assaulting that comedian in any way…
