While common sense would dictate CEOs be treated like any other employee, most companies enter into a contract with their CEO. The golden parachute is often include as a way for the company to part ways early with said CEO. So to dismiss without said compensation would most likely lead to a very lengthy legal battle.

The problem with that is that most of these devices require a certificate to be signed in the firmware that guarantees authenticity. There can be ways around that (think rooting/jailbreaking phones), but for the most part it prevents any third-party software to be recognized by the device.

Thats the truth of it. People can scoff at the idea of using one of these places, but every single one of us would do so if our situation were dire enough and we were out of options. The sad nature is that taking advantage of people in that scenario is the business model.
