Nah. Transmission is fine. Lack of proper cooling pre-recall is the issue. Rear wheel bearing was also fine once the upgraded ones were properly installed. Dealers loved to install them with shipping grease instead of properly wheel bearing grease.

While not a performance car per se, the contential putting a 4.6l forward of the front axle made no sense.

depends a ton on the car. Subaru’s almost never need a short shift kit. The real issue is the transmission is allowed to wander around. So the real fix is GpN or Cusco trans mounts. Nails the transmission in place and makes the shifter feel nice. 

No boat anchor 2JZ swap? Mind you we’ve had 20 years of better engines. Now 5.0 coyote and 5.3/6.0 chevy line the junkyards. Interesting 6cyl from nearly every make. Turbo 4s. Take your pick.
