i learned to speed read before my caption obsession. I read more than i listen a lot of times, and of course a subbed anime obsession fueled this habit as well. The worst part is when the captions are out of sync. i cant watch shows that are that way.

perspective can be taught very easily using a few techniques, a good teacher could help you get past that. also try drawing things upside down to focus more on the shapes and perspective may happen on its own in some cases :)
